2020 Conference Registration - Cancellation and Refund Policy

COVID-19 Update - April 2, 2020

Dear colleagues,

Given the changing economic and health landscapes and the fact that already a large number of conferences and other scientific events are rescheduled for the fall of 2020, you may not be surprised that the Board of Directors has decided to postpone the 2020 IAFMHS conference in Krakow in June and to focus on 2021 and 2022.

We are delighted to announce that our local organizing committee in Krakow has accepted to host the conference in 2021and make the appropriate re-arrangements.

PLEASE SAVE THE DATES: June 22-25, 2021 in Krakow, Poland.

We are also happy to announce that the 2022 conference will be held in Sydney, Australia, June 21-24.

For those who have already paid their conference registration, your registration will be automatically refunded in full within the next 5-10 business days. If you don’t receive a refund after two weeks, please contact our Association coordinator Yan Lim (iafmhs@sfu.ca).

Also, the American Psychological Association has put up some information on how to cite a cancelled conference: https://apastyle.apa.org/blog/canceled-conferences

Stay tuned on the IAFMHS website for more information.

Stay safe and healthy, and in touch (virtually)

COVID-19 Update - March 15, 2020

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am writing to update you on the status of our IAFMHS 2020 conference in Krakow, Poland June 23-35. As you all know, the COVID-19 landscape is changing on a daily basis. There remains a number of uncertainties about the course of this crisis, and the various governmental courses of action at the local and international levels. While many conferences have cancelled and/or rescheduled, others are holding off until the landscape is clearer. The health and safety of attendees remain our top priority. At this time, we are planning to hold the meeting in Krakow as scheduled.

However, because the situation and public health guidance are changing rapidly, we are actively planning alternative scenarios, should they be needed. A survey will be sent out shortly to poll your preference around potential reschedule dates if need be.

We will also be extending the deadline for the early bird registration date to May 15. If a final decision to cancel the conference were to be necessary, conference registration fees would be reimbursed in full.

We are monitoring local and international information and will keep you informed on any developments.

Again we urge all participants to validate their cancellation policies with airlines and accommodations, and to hold off on making non-refundable travel plans until the situation has become clearer.

We will update everyone regularly via email as well as posting information on our website here. The Board will hold bi-weekly meetings to monitor the situation.

You can find detailed information regarding the evolution of the COVID-19 situation on the Johns Hopkins University website and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control .

In addition, the World Health Organization provides information about the virus.

Be assured that the board is monitoring the situation closely. One way or another, we look forward to seeing you in good health to celebrate IAFMHS 20 year anniversary.

COVID-19 Update - March 11, 2020

We are writing to update you on the status of the 2020 International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services Conference in Krakow, Poland.

The Conference entitled Past Present and Future of Forensic Mental Health Services is scheduled for June 23-June 25th.

There are confirmed COVID-19 cases across Europe. As of today, Poland has 27 confirmed cases. The Polish government has closed all schools, universities, and cultural institutions until March 25th. All events over 500 have been banned for the time being. Polish borders are open, but the Polish authorities have implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures.

Given the uncertainty about the course of this crisis, it is premature to make any decisions at this point in time. Therefore, for the time being we are still planning to hold the IAFMHS conference in Krakow, from June 23-25.

We are monitoring local and international information and will keep you informed on any developments. However, given the uncertainty, we will delay a final decision until the situation is clearer, but will send another update within the next 3 weeks (and will continue to post information on our website here). If a final decision to cancel or reschedule the conference were to be necessary, conference registration fees will be reimbursed in full.

In the meantime, we urge all participants to validate their cancellation policies with airlines and accommodations, and to hold off on making non-refundable travel plans until the situation has become clearer.

You can find detailed information regarding the evolution of the COVID-19 situation on the Johns Hopkins University website and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control .

In addition, the World Health Organization provides information about the virus.

We are looking forward to seeing you in good health, in Krakow at the end of June to celebrate our association’s 20th anniversary!
