Call for nominations for a Chair for the Forensic Mental Health Nursing section of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services

In 2004 at the annual International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services (IAFMHS) conference in Stockholm the ‘Forensic Mental Health Nursing section [FMHN-s]was founded by Mike Doyle. The aims of the FMHS-s meeting are for nurses who are affiliated with forensic mental health to network and share professional information and experience. The FMHN-s supports the discussion of forensic mental health nursing topics and also collaboration between nurses. Since the first meeting we have held eight FMHN-s meetings attended by an increasing number of nurses. At the 2008 IAFMHS conference in Edinburgh the FMHN-s successfully proposed two ‘Nursing Symposia’. At the Barcelona 2011 FMHN-S meeting it was agreed that every three years the Chair should be re-placed by the chair-elect.

The FMHN-s Chair ensures a place for nursing at IAFMHS and continuity of the FMHN-s by:

  • Representing FMHN-s on the IAFMHS Advisory Board.
  • Promoting and advertising the call for nursing papers
  • Organizing, compiling and submitting the two FMHN-s-symposia
  • Preparing an agenda and chairing the FMHN-s meeting at the IAFMHS conference.
  • Supporting the publication of the FMHN-s newsletter.
  • Editing the FMHN-s sub-site at the IAFHMS website.
